PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Tâmega power generation system is made up of three hydroelectric power plants: Gouvães, Daivões and Alto Tâmega, located on the Tâmega River, a tributary of the Douro, in northern Portugal, with a combined capacity of 1,158 MW, a generation capacity of 1,766 GWh per year and a storage capacity of 40 million kWh.
With these figures, it can be considered as one of the largest hydroelectric projects carried out in Europe.
Iberdrola relied on the experience and capabilities of PEFIPRESA, both in Spain and Portugal, to carry out:
This project, carried out in Portugal, not only stands out for its impressive capacity to generate renewable and sustainable energy but also for its commitment to safety, demonstrated in the meticulous implementation of fire protection systems provided by PEFIPRESA. The collaboration between Iberdrola and Pefipresa emphasizes the importance of safety measures in large-scale infrastructures, ensuring the protection of both the material investment and the valuable human resources behind each operation.
In addition to its contributions to the energy sector and the local economy, the Tâmega electro-producing system stands as an emblematic example of the balance between industrial development and environmental preservation in Europe. Its construction reflects a firm commitment to the future, where energy generation does not compromise natural resources or safety.
This project marks a milestone in the history of renewable energy in Europe and also sets a precedent for future developments in the sector.
It is a clear reflection of how technology, engineering and commitment to safety and the environment can converge in projects that not only supply clean energy to thousands of homes but also contribute to sustainable development and environmental protection. With the Tâmega electroproducing system, Portugal demonstrates its commitment to the path towards a greener and safer future.
